Why are home eye tests required?
Eye tests are an important aspect of our health care and contribute to our well-being, no matter what age we are. As we age, the health needs of our eyes become even more apparent as our eyesight tends to deteriorate naturally and we develop other eye changes. As a result, almost everyone at some point in their lives will benefit from spectacles in order to assist reading, work or even watching television. You are also at a higher risk of developing eye diseases and conditions if you are home-bound, suffer from illness or require long-term care in a care setting. It is therefore vital that regular eye tests and treatments are undertaken not only for visual aids but also to detect any diseases at an early stage.
What does PDO Optical Offer?
Regular visits from PDO Opticians will increase the chances of you being able to achieve the optimum level of vision, regardless of any natural changes that may be occurring to your eyes. Having the comfort of health professionals attending YOU at your doorstep is a service that should be considered vital. We have the ability not only to check if your eyes are working properly (and arrange any treatments e.g. spectacles if not) but often we are able to notice ill changes in your eyes BEFORE they cause you trouble and will liase with your GP to ensure things are caught and treated early.
The older we become the more likely we are to suffer from ailments such as Macular Degeneration, Cataracts and Glaucoma. We can provide support and advice on treatments and methods to improve maintain eye sight levels.
Why is PDO better than a conventional high street optician?
Although many patients may have or had a conventional ‘high street’ optician, their care models are not always set-up to address the specific needs of patients confined to care or in their home. For example, response times may be non-existent or slower as high street opticians are busy treating other patients within their clinics. Many Opticians are not able to travel quickly or regularly to patients addresses. Furthermore, not all Opticians have the equipment and/or skills which are required in a domiciliary environment. This can often mean that any care provided, may at best be a compromise. Since PDO HomeHealth concentrates only on these type of patients, we pride ourselves in attending to the urgent needs within the required time frame AND a quality of service to match. We provide regular follow-ups to ensure that none of our patients are lost along the way, even if they happen to go in and out of hospital for other medical matters.
